Hydroid is currently seeking a Vice President of Engineering to manage the company’s engineering team, which includes product support, research and development, and engineering on a day-to-day basis; application and system engineering functions are also included.  In collaboration with the VP of Operations effectively communicates requirements, resolves issues, and ensures the successful delivery of reliable products on schedule, on budget and in a scalable manner.  Recruits, develops, and maintains a productive and collaborative engineering team and through leadership, helps make Hydroid a great place to work.

Located in the U.S. and a subsidiary of Kongsberg Maritime, Hydroid is part of the Kongsberg Maritime AUV Group, the world’s most trusted manufacturer of advanced Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs). REMUS and HUGIN AUVs provide innovative and reliable full-picture AUV systems for the marine research, defense, hydrographic and offshore/energy markets. Together, REMUS and HUGIN represent the most advanced, diversified and field-proven family of AUVs and AUV support systems in the world.

Duties and Responsibilities include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Ensure our products are reliable, thoughtfully engineered, of use to our customers, and properly supported.
  2. In cooperation with Human Resources identify and recruit talent as required to build and maintain an effective engineering team.
  3. Maintain an exciting environment which stimulates creativity and makes Hydroid a great place to work.
  4. Maintain clear and respectful lines of communication within the organization and with customers.
  5. Demonstrate and promote: ethical behavior, compliance with the current US DoD National Industrial Security Program Operating Manual, all other applicable legislation and regulations, and the protection of Hydroid’s intellectual property, patents, etc. 
  6. Promote the intelligent use of CMMI and other project management tools in engineering, research and development, and product support projects.
  7. Collaborate with the leadership and the staff of the company to establish and refine research and development goals; participate in and support the yearly strategic planning process; develop and execute a road map for our products that is consistent with the approved strategic plan.
  8. Encourage the effective and controlled transfer of knowledge between the engineering, production and customer service staffs.
  9. Develop the department’s yearly budget and manages its execution after approval.
  10. Establish a system of quality and productivity metrics that are visible and are communicated to all employees.
  11. Develop our people and processes and thereby allow Hydroid to continuously improve.
  12. Perform other related duties as assigned.


Education/Experience:
PHD or Masters in an engineering discipline with 10 years’ experience developing marine robotic systems with near term application.

Language Ability:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Math Ability:
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Word; Microsoft Office; Microsoft Excel; Compilers; AutoCAD; Internet Explorer; graphic software; Microsoft Project; Microsoft Access; Deltek.

Certificates and Licenses:   
Valid Driver’s License
Must be able to obtain US Defense Security Clearance
US Citizenship
