Epson Electronics America (EEA) has developed two new products for its inertial measurement unit (IMU) lineup.
The new products, the M-G352 and M-G362, will be demonstrated for the first-time publicly at AUVSI’s Unmanned Systems 2013, the world’s largest international exposition of unmanned systems to be held from August 12th – 15th in Washington, D.C., USA.
The M-G352 IMU incorporates a wider gyroscope and accelerometer dynamic range – servicing applications with higher dynamics and greater vibration and shock. Offering a fully-calibrated and
temperature-compensated measurement range of +450 deg/s for the gyroscopic sensors and +6g for the accelerometers, the M-G352 is suitable for industrial and unmanned applications where high stability is required despite challenging environmental conditions, such as unmanned vehicle guidance, navigation and control.
The M-G362 IMU achieves 3 deg/hr gyro bias instability, approaching the performance of Fiber Optic Gyro (FOG) and Ring Laser Gyro (RLG) IMUs at a much smaller size and cost. Offering a fully-calibrated and temperature-compensated measurement range of +150 deg/s for the gyroscopic sensors and +3g for the accelerometers, the M-G362 is suitable for industrial and unmanned applications where very high stability is required for extended periods of time, such as high-accuracy gimbaled camera and antenna systems stabilization.
The new models are equipped with additional new features, including a higher output data rate (2,000 samples per second, max.) and external trigger input, and counter reset function, making it easy to synchronize measurements and other sensors or with a GPS module in a user’s system.
Released just over two years ago, Epson’s current IMU, the M-G350, established a new benchmark for accuracy, stability and power consumption in small, lightweight package, primarily serving the commercial and industrial markets in applications such as vibration monitoring and motion tracking. Together, the new M-G352 and M-G362 IMUs extend the reach of Epson’s IMU product line, offering customers a variety of solutions tailored to their specific applications.
