The House Armed Services Committee provided $22 million in the advanced submarine system development line item for "unmanned underwater vehicle development." The congressional source said the increase is not aimed at any particular UUV project, but rather that several committee members wanted to see additional investment in UUVs. The money will go to "Project Number 2033, for Advanced Submarine Systems Development in order to support innovative development, demonstration, evaluation, and fielding of promising undersea technologies for the delivery of new and needed capability to the undersea domain," the source said, adding that the Navy would have to award that funding through the normal competitive process rather than lumping it in with an existing contract.
