Navmar Applied Sciences Corp. is being awarded a $9.64 million contract by the Navy to advance the development of a “Mobile Shallow Water Antisubmarine Target System,” the Defense Department said in its Tuesday contract announcements.

The contract calls for Navmar to build a prototype version of the system based on a design it developed under a previous Navy contract.

Navmar will perform 60 percent of the work in Lexington Park, Md., 35 percent at its Warminster, Pa., headquarters and the remaining 5 percent at various testing locations in the United States and abroad. The Navy expects it to be done with the work by January 2015.
